New Okaloosa County Clerk of Court J.D. Peacock has created a Department of Inspector General to strengthen oversight of the county’s finances.

The new position will be held by Sam Scallan, who previously served as internal auditor for the clerk’s office.

According to a proposed charter for the new department, the Inspector General’s investigative duties could include consulting with law enforcement agencies, placing county employees under oath and compelling employees to produce books, paper and other evidence.
